Dons visit

Image
Today we had an amazing visit from a man named Don. He works as an eel scientist and sees lots of different types of eels. We learnt some amazing facts like,  Eels can swim forwards and in reverse, There are three types of eels in NZ, Don has caught an eel about two meters long, Eels have a great sense of smell, Long fins eat anything, Eels bite dig deep and spin to tear of skin, Eels eat ducklings, eels don't eat every day, Eels evolve from other fish. Those are only some of the facts that we learnt from his visit! I really enjoyed this extension to the eels learning! It was amazing learning about Dons amazing eels he has encountered. 😎😎 Don shows us his plastic Eel to demonstrate how long and wide one of the eels he found is.

Janet and Phil visit

The visit from Janet and Phil was awesome! We learnt about the money, the tribes, the food, and the features of life. The south Sudanese have no power, are really hot and their 100 dollar is worth 30 cents in NZ. Their hair grows REALLY curly and their hair and eyes are all the same colour. Their hobbies  are ones like hunting, cooking  and looking after cattle. The children are scarred to show what tribe they are in. It was really fun and watching videos of them dancing. I really hope they can come back again!  Phil in middle Janet in far right

Te Tuna Taone outdoor trip

Hi! This blog is about the long fin eel trip we had at the Heathcote river. It was amazing! We got to touch the slimy eels, learn about water invertebrates, make some eel art, go on  nature walk and learn about pollution and how to stop it. First at the water invertebrates, we learnt about the little invertebrates in the water and how they are used to determine water quality🐌.Second was the eel art. My group made an eel out of tree bits and flowers and grass. Next was the nature walk. It was fun walking around the river. fourth was the storm water talk. Last was the eels, they were awesome to see  and touch. Then we came back to school from a great trip.

science in a van visit

Hi everyone! The visit from science in a van was awesome!! It was amazing learning about forces and motion. They did heaps of cool experiments and awesome science talks. They taught us about the laws of motion. One of the things they did experiments on was a rubber chicken named Steve. Steve was so lucky he got shot up to the roof (ouch!) by an L&P bottle rocket!πŸš€ They also did an experiment were you try to get 3 eggs into glasses when knocking on a place mat. The visit from Emily and Allan was amazing.
